Celebrating National Picnic Day

Food for picnic Celebrating National Picnic DayNational Picnic Day is April 23rd! We’ve been eating our meals outside in the beauty of nature for centuries. Did you know our modern-day idea of a picnic evolved from Medieval hunting feasts and Victorian garden parties? However, these sophisticated affairs were more like multiple course meals, not the gingham clad events of today.

During the early 19th century a group of wealthy London citizens formed “The Picnic Society” to promote picnics as social gatherings. These picnics were potlucks, and each participant also had to provide a share of the entertainment. This history demonstrates why picnics are such a great way to ring in the spring with friends and loved ones. The more blankets, the merrier.

To celebrate National Picnic Day, take your meal outdoors and enjoy a picnic with your friends and family! Check out these recipes from Ancient Harvest that can be easily packed up and served on a blanket in your favorite outdoor spot!
