New Look, Same Delicious Products!

New Look for Ancient Harvest Gluten-FreeAt Ancient Harvest, we’ve been cooking up modern versions of ancient foods for more than 35 years. It all started when we were the first company to bring quinoa to the U.S., and we’ve been working with the same Bolivian farming communities ever since. As we’ve grown, quinoa remains an ingredient in everything we create, and it’s an important piece of our brand heritage.

We also believe in making it easier to incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet. And because we know you’ve got a lot on your plate, it’s important for these foods to deliver on protein, too. That’s why we pack valuable, plant-based nutrition only found in nature’s finest ingredients – like quinoa, beans and lentils – into the foods you crave, such as pasta, mac & cheese, hot cereal and more.

That will never change.

But you may notice something different when you go to buy your favorite Ancient Harvest products. We have a new look! And we hope you love it as much as we do.

2016 felt like the right time for us to give Ancient Harvest a fresh look that maintains our signature teal box while bringing the brand up-to-date and giving a nod to where we started. The farm field pattern brings our heritage and continued partnership with Bolivian farming communities front and center. The package is cleaner, beautiful and the information you’re seeking is easier to find. We also wanted to bring you better visibility into what you’re getting with larger product windows, and have new recipe inspiration on each box.

Inside, you’ll find the same great-tasting products you’ve grown to know and love. We’ve even increased our offerings to include a larger family size 27oz. quinoa in a resealable package.

No matter the meal, you can always trust Ancient Harvest to provide the delicious, plant-based fuel you need to power up your day. And now, to brighten up your pantry!

Find your Ancient Harvest favorites in brand new packaging at a store near you, or shop our online store to have them shipped directly to your home.

Goodbye Gluten

celiace disease awareness month mayIn May, Celiac Awareness Month raises awareness about celiac disease, a genetic autoimmune disease which damages the small intestine- an immune reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. In addition to people with Celiac Disease, there are also a large number of people that are sensitive to gluten and therefore avoid it in their diets.

Gluten can be found in a range of products, but Ancient Harvest is happy to say that our products are completely gluten-free, without sacrificing on flavor. We know how hard it is for those who battle with this on a daily basis, which is why we are happy to be able to offer a wide range of products that the whole family can enjoy.

We produce and pack all of our products in accordance with gluten-free standards, and all of our corn-quinoa pasta varieties are certified gluten-free and produced in gluten-free facilities. We can breathe easy knowing that these products are delicious and also safe to eat for people with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity.

Our Polenta is Non-GMO Project Verified

nongmo polenta non-gmo project verified

A little while ago we made the exciting announcement that Ancient Harvest received Non-GMO Project verification for a variety of our products, and in our mission to continuously improve our products and foster a transparent, trustworthy relationship with our customers, we have extended our verification to our entire line of Polentas. For us, this step is important because corn is one of the crops that is considered high risk of having a presence of GMOs. In 2011, approximately 88% of corn crops were not verified non-GMO. Although our polenta products have always been certified organic, we are excited to now add the Non-GMO certification as well.

High-Risk Crops that are currently in commercial production, along with the ingredients derived from these crops, must be tested every time prior to use in Non-GMO Project Verified products. That means our non-GMO verified polenta products are submitted to ongoing testing to detect all major GMO risk ingredients including facility inspections and an annual audit to ensure we’re meeting the highest possible standards for GMO avoidance.

For more information on the Non-GMO Project, visit their official website – and for more information on any of our Non-GMO Project Verified products (which includes all of our gluten-free corn and quinoa Supergrain Pastas; all of our organic quinoa grains, quinoa flour and quinoa flakes; and four flavors of our new hot cereals – all easy to identify by the butterfly logo) visit AncientHarvest.com.

“We believe our Ancient Harvest customers have a right to know what ingredients are in their food, and we’re proud to add the Non-GMO Project seal to our products,” said Jennifer Stolte, vice president of marketing at Ancient Harvest. “We’re already using the butterfly seal to identify our verified products online, and we’re currently updating our packaging to give our fans confidence about knowing exactly what is – and isn’t – in the products they’re choosing.”

Ancient Harvest Taps the Power of Protein with New Bean & Lentil Supergrain™ Pastas

AHQ-Lentil-Lineup

Ancient Harvest’s new line of bean and lentil pastas available nationwide in spring 2015

Boulder, Colo. – (Mar. 5, 2015) – Ancient Harvest, the first brand to bring quinoa to the U.S. in the 1980s, is delivering more wholesome, gluten-free comfort food with the debut of its new lines of protein-packed Bean & Lentil Supergrain Pastas and Lentil & Quinoa Supergrain Mac & Cheese™.

“Research shows that a majority of consumers want to add more protein into their diets, and many are looking to plant-based sources of protein,” said Constance Roark, MS, RDN and director of marketing at Ancient Harvest. “The brand’s focus remains on protein-rich ancient grains, like quinoa, but we’re continuously cooking up ideas to meet new consumer demands. Now, we’ve incorporated other high-protein and gluten-free superfoods, like lentils and beans, into our product lines. A pasta dish that tastes great and adds nutritional value to your plate is pretty hard to beat.”

These naturally gluten-free pasta varieties are made with a hearty blend of quinoa and nutritious legumes. The pastas look and act like traditional pasta in every way, from taste to texture, but have two times the protein and a healthy helping of fiber in every serving. The five new pasta varieties include Black Bean & Quinoa Elbows and Spaghetti, Red Lentil & Quinoa Rotelle and Linguine and Green Lentil & Quinoa Penne (MSRP $3.39).

With 16 grams of protein per serving, the new Lentil & Quinoa Mac & Cheese varieties will join Ancient Harvest’s existing line of mac & cheeses. A combination of the high-protein, fiber and nutrition of red lentils and quinoa, the Lentil & Quinoa Mac & Cheese will be available in three creamy varieties, Mild Cheddar with Elbows, Sharp Cheddar with Shells and White Cheddar with Shells (MSRP $2.99).

Ancient Harvest bean and lentil pastas and new lentil macaroni and cheese varieties will arrive at retailers nationwide this spring. All other Ancient Harvest products are available in natural food stores and conventional supermarkets nationwide.

Spring 2014 Food Trends

Just like everything else, the things we eat (and how we eat them) are susceptible to trends. The year 2013 saw a rise in raw foods, seaweed and (our personal favorite) quinoa; in fact, it was even declared the International Year of Quinoa. And while 2014 is sure to have some surprises in store, it looks like this delicious and nutritious supergrain isn’t going away any time soon.According to the National Restaurant Association, this year will be a big one for environmental sustainability, healthier kids’ meals, and gluten-free cuisine –all things that we at Ancient Harvest can most certainly get behind!Recent articles on Food Navigator and HelloHealthy (the MyFitnessPal blog) appear to second these initial predictions, and also say that kale, coconut and chia seeds will continue to be popular through 2014.

What else should you be keeping an eye out for this year? Why, ancient grains! According to HelloHealthy, “Ancient grains are ‘in’ again. They’re back and nutritionally superior than many modern-day, refined grains. Some to check out this year include quinoa… and millet.”

Food Navigator says that “Despite the popularity of some low-grain diets, 32% of dietitians forecast continued fondness for ancient grains in 2014.”

As far as seasonal trends go, springtime tends to emphasize fresh produce. Strawberries, asparagus, peas, radishes, artichokes, rhubarb, fava beans – these and other colorful, fragrant spring delicacies are beginning to pop up on restaurant menus and in the produce section of your local grocery store.

The timing couldn’t be better, as Food Fanatics predicts that spring 2014 will definitely see a rise in produce-driven cuisine – and also superfoods. Now is the perfect time to whip up a fresh salad of springtime goodness, and mix in some quinoa or another ancient grain for added heartiness and nutrition.

Not just for salads, quinoa can also be blended into a smoothie of spring-y strawberries or cherries – or used as the base of a regional Mexican-flavored bowl (also among the hottest spring 2014 food trends.)

If you’re looking for some easy and tasty ways to incorporate ancient grains into your diet this season and year, be sure to visit our Ancient Harvest Pinterest page.

Also, be sure to keep in touch with us here on this blog or on social media, as we will continue to bring you more information on our new products as well as delicious recipe ideas!
